Hey all, I have a 01 summit 500 fan. This thing will not Idle unless I have the Idle screws basicly turned all the way in. I did a plug check, looks good. I just rebuilt this motor(new crank and new top end) why doesnt it idle properly.

Also It is very boggy as well. when you punch it off the line it takes a few seconds to gain rpm in order to start moving. But once you start moving it seems alright. It just seems to have no power. But this is me comparing it to my 600 mxz. And when it gets hot, It doenst want to start. but when cold it fires first or second pull.

I put about 100 kms in the mountains over the weekend and it went ok. Mabey Im parinoid and this boggyness is normal for a fan cooled engine. I was just expecting more from this sled.

if its hard to start when its warm, and wont idle my first thought is crank seals, when the sled gets hot the seals suck air. did you change them on the rebuild?

It could be clogged pilot jets. Have you checked them out?

I also would check for plugged pilot jets. - Bill

when you sya boog do you mean boging indy lite style or just throttle hesitation? Check your belt and see how tight it is.

More like throttle hesitation, it will barely idle with the idle screw turned all the way in, I warmed it up then sprayed brake clean all over engine to check for leaks but found none. oh well, I think I will just keep this sled for a spare, I snowchecked a summit X so i dont think ill be riding it anymore.

I would say Jetting. I got a grandtouring 500f 2002 and when its cold its like that or if you change elevation. The fans dont have DPM or anything and the jeeting gets all screwy once you go up higher or lower so if it works in the mountains but not home idleing i would check the jetting. The hesitation on the trottle is pretty slow fans havelittle tourque and power and are nowhere near snappy so if you are comparing it to a 600 you probably just getting the difference and if the jetting wrong it may be slow for that to. Thtas just what i would check into.

This sled has High altitude compansation(HAC) which is the early version of dpm. engine runs great but little throttle responce which sounds normal, No more fan cooled engines for me.

have you checked the pilot jets yet?
