I just bought a 1988 Tercel for 50 bucks. I keep bottoming it out when I take her offroading I'm wondering if they're is anyway of jackin it up without pouring money into it.

You could install spring spacers. It would be a real stiff ride tho. It is difficult to jack up a unibody vehicle, but I'm sure toydoc would find a way to do it. :p :D

Rip out anything that is extra weight and it'll ride higher and be harder to bottom. Who needs a stereo, carpet, passenger seats, most of a dash, any interior trim, or a full exhaust. Exterior body panels are optional as well. I am assuming this is a "hammer-it-in-the-woods" only car. We had a couple of those kinda cars when I was younger, now that I really want one I can't freaking find em anywhere! (PS- The 81 Subaru wagon was the toughest by far, outlived both Datsuns and the S-10)

Is it a hatchback??? I have a 87 Tercel Hatchback!!! These things are the best cars ever made. RIIIIIIIIIGHT. If you can get past the 20 sec 1/4 mile times and 72 mph ETs. Trust me, I ran my tercel. That's as good as it gets. :) But to answer your question. I dont think there is really anything you can do without doing it halfblassed. I say just let the dumb thing bottom out. I've done it many times, and it's still running like a champ.

HEHE, I got my 87 Tercel for free too. And it only had 83K on the ticker. The person that had it had to stop driving, and I guess I was in the right place at the right time. Oh yeah, did I mention that it runs awesome and I get 33mpg. :) I love the car!!!

Make skid plates

That actually seems to work, I've seen a couple old cars about 200 km far in logging roads. They had 1/4" steel skidplates from bumper to bumper and people where skipping on rocks with them :0: Kinda looked like a demolition derby :p :D
