I have a 2001 500 xcsp, and going on the second season from which i bought it. it hit the 3,000 mark this past season, i noticed it was boggy, and doesnt seem to have all the power of a normal 500.. then when started to play in the powder, lost most power, clean the carbs out, but can anyone point me to detailed valve cleaning manual, or online website, or someone just walk me through it? Im also looking for other maintenance issues to expect at this mileage? I can tell the previous owner was very good to this sled, no cracks, clean no scuffs, however im returning from iraq soon, and looking for good fall cleaning for upcoming season, other than the valve walk through, what are other mechanic level maintenance checks i can preform to ensure a good year of riding for 08??@?!?@!@ thanks all...

I have a '02 700 XCSP and if the previous owner kept the valves clean, it will be easy. Remove from the cylinder and start scrubbing with B-12 Chemtool and synthetic steel wool. It comes off rather well. It will take some elbow grease. If they don't want to come out of the cylinder wall, warm the engine by idling and they should come. Also, expect to replace the gaskets, they are cheap and will fail as you remove the housings.
