recently purchased a xc 500, runs great, fresh carb job, and overall great condition for being 7 years old... two of snomobiling buddies have same 500, only 02 verisions, i noticed they run through oil a little more than normal, do these sleds naturally burn through more oil, or do i have a oil injector pump faulty? i run recommened VES synthetic polaris oil... what gives? or too much powder and lead foot?
also what tune ups can i expect to do after the 3000 mile mark??

Yeah I mean how much gas are you using is the real question. If you are using ten gallons and it takes a quart, that's a 40:1 ratio. If it's 12 gallons to a quart of oil then you're at 48:1. Anywhere in that range is good. If you are using a quart for 5 gallons (20:1) or even 1.25 quarts for 10 gallons (32:1) then yeah, you are running too much oil. If it's that rich you should smell a pretty strong oil smell at times, I know from experience. Start by dialing down the adjustment on the oil pump and make sure the cable is working properly and not binding. The cable could be coming apart inside and not fully returning to the idle position. I guess start by seeing if the oiler is set to spec or not.

I agree compare oil burned to amount of gas used, this is the safe bet
50:1 is the target
I reccomend AMSOIL
