I have not experienced it, but watch out for crank issues with the 580..... other than that they should be pretty bullet proof other than normal wear and tear....

If this is a '95, its not a 580, its a first year production of a 597cc (600) If the sled is left alone as stock without pipes all its life, then you should be ok without any problems, as long as the previous owner(s) took care of it. 580s were born in the '93 - '94 year but Polaris did make a 600 in '94 1/2 year in the XCR600 form. '91 Indy 500 is very good sleds, and again its all based on how the sleds has been taken care of. WL.

Ive heard alot of people saying they blew their engine up with pipes on these polaris's, I have never ran pipes, and have put about 5000 miles on my sled since getting it at 9000 miles with no internal engine work...Reliability trumps a few HP IMO, specially for trail riding.

It depends if the oil passages has been drilled out so the oil can gets to the bearings a bit better. If you dont have it drilled out, then you will have a short crank life. Also you will need to use a very good oil to prolong the crank life. WL.

how do you drill out the oil pasages and where are they and also i use spectro oil is that sufficent

Again, that depends - we all dont have a crystal ball to tell you whats going to happen to the life of the engine. You would have to split the case open to get to the oil passage. Youll see small holes that feeds the oil to the bearings - it will need to be drilled out to a bigger hole - that will help to prolong the bearing life. A good synthetic oil of any brand will be good to use, especially when using pipes. WL.
