Hey all, I want to open up discussions on this topic because im looking at buying either an 07 renegade (REV) or 08 renegade (XP) and when i look at the XP's, I feel like they lost alot of there quaility (solid well built feel) than the REVs have. Is it just me.
I mean theres like 6 recalls on the xp 08's and thats not good, anywhere from the drive shaft to the seals on the rave valves. and then theres the need to reinforce the chassis foot rests.
I am looking at a few used 08's, ones that were used on groomed trails and with toured guides and rentals. All the panelling looks loose and floppy and the front and rear bumpers are easily bent. Plastic panels just under the sides of the seat fall off easily and windshield seems to pop off way too easily.
My last machine was a ZX chassis MXZ600. So am i expecting too much from a 400lb machine?
I know everyone speaks highly of the ride, power and handling, but overall, whats your opinions?
Thanks in advance, i look forward to engaging those with quality responses.:Guillotine_anim:

I think you hit it on the head allready. When you said what can you expect from a 400lb sled. I beleive this goes for anything a company produces and starts making them lighter for "Performance". It seems they allways start to sacrafice strength and longevity of the product. JMO !

The rev is an all around great sled the xp have many perks but with most new sleds it has its downfalls like you said.if i was upgrading from a zx i would pick an 04-06 rev 800.

I am going to have to disagree...
I cant say enough about the new XP chassis... all my friends who own them have had absolutely no problems rigidity wise... it is a great machine, and combined with this new e-tec motor it is going to be unstoppable... what you guys have to realize is that Bombardier is the worlds leader in technology engineering... yes their snowmobile division is not as technically advanced as maybe their jet engine and train departments, but you should take the online tour of the brp plant... there is absolutly no way that any of these other snowmobile and 4 wheeler only companies can match them... I am a cat guy because i live my firecat... but as far as I am concerned.. cat has really dropped the ball on these new machines... Ski-doo is so far ahead... just be careful of what you hear... everyone rides their machines differently, and no matter what anyone says, a 400 pound sled is definatly going to get a lot more beat up by a 300 lbs. guy than say a 160 lbs. guy... they can only make them so strong at that weight... all of my friends who own those things hover around 200 lbs. or less and their machines have been ditch banging all year last year and NOTHING is loose and floppy... take what you hear with a grain of salt and do your own research

I love mine - I wouldn't give it up for anything! I ride pretty aggressively and hit a lot of beat up trails with it pretty hard. I am a 240lb guy. I hit 2-4 foot high moguls at 50+ mph and it just soaks them up. No damage to the frame that I can tell. I did put the skid plate and running board reinforcements on before I rode it but I would have done that with a rev chassis as well - just cheap insurance. Mine still runs like a fine swiss watch!
They got the weight loss through good engineering and higher quality components at stress points. Where it takes a lot of stress the parts are strong, where it doesn't they are not. Using a heavy duty part in a non-stress area is just carrying extra weight around.
There were some complaints about hits to only one ski tweaking the front end (this is all just third-hand stories on my part) but there are also plenty of stories of bent nuns out there on the rev. If you hit something, something is going to break. That's just life.
I caught a couple of half-buried culverts on the skid plate and it did just fine. Didn't hit anything on the a-arms so really can't comment first-hand there.
Only major complaint I have is oil leaking from under the cap on the oil tank. Supposed to be fixed in '09 and should be able to take '08s to a dealer and get a fix for it. I just bought a $16 insert from a guy on another site that is supposed to fix this problem - we'll see this winter :)
If you are really worried wait and pick up an '09. Getting the first year of a new model is always a little risky. I knew that going in and was willing to gamble. I ended up with an awesome sled and 1300 miles of riding last winter I would not trade for anything! :tounge:
BTW - the running boards are such an improvement over the '07 I would get it for that alone! No matter what I was going through or how I was sitting/standing my feet were glued to the boards.
Did I mention I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything (except maybe an '09 800 Gade) ? :tounge:

I've heard no major complaints from people I know. Ski Doo would be foolish to do the changes they did and not back them up quality wise. Every new model has a few issues and I always wait a year or so.
