Hey Guys,

Looking at picking up a cheap sled and shipping it to Aus. There's nothing really here cept maybe a dealer or two but buying new is way out of the question.

Has anyone dealt with shipping a sled from The States to Aus before??

Thanks

I'm thinking that once you ship to aus you might as well just went out and bought a new one! I was looking at freight for a 1700lb grill from georgia to mn and the shipping was 1k!! good luck let us know how it works out.

G'day,

I've had some luck with shipping companies, now I need to choose a sled.

Bearing in mind that shipping will probably be $1000, duties about $250 and not to mention the state of our dollar against yours at the moment, my budget for a sled is about $1000 USD. Yes, I know this won't get me much.

My problem now is I know next to nothing about snowmobiles and i'm not sure what is available for that budget. To give you some background, here's my experience and requirements:

Experience:

Snowmobiles: 5 or 6 short rides - know how to operate one.
Motorbikes: Road and dirt, been riding all my life - I'll be able to handle the power.
Mechanics: Confident with engines, most types, can do most repairs myself - yes, expecting to buy something with problems, should be able to self fix.

Requirements:

Type of sledding: Basically something to get two people to the top of a hill. No powder, nothing steeper than a standard black run, nothing too adventurous, no jumps. Our snow height average over here is about 6000ft.
Condition: Who am I kidding, beggers can't be choosers. Will repaint anyways. Cracked shields, ripped seats, anything small like that is not a problem.
2 stoke: OK, no probs with emissions in OZ.....yet
Eng CC: ??, should I be aiming for a big as I can afford?
Options: Hand warmers etc: none required. Will only be used for short rides. Not much snow over here.

In a nutshell: Something that will get two people to the top of a hill with relaitive ease. Don't care what it looks like and not too concerned if something little stuffs up. Oh, and under $1000!

Is there something out there that meets these requirements? Better still, anyone selling something like this?

Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.

You should be able to find what you are looking for at $1500 US. If your hill is icy or lacking snow , you might want to go w/ an air cooled sled , the liquid cooled sleds require snow thrown onto the radiator in the tunnel . Two up sleds are a little hard to find , doubling on a single can be done , but depending on body size only short distances are comfortable . I guess the big question is what do you intend to do with it .
