If you haven't owned a sled before, I would have a shop tune it up for you.

fresh gas, new plugs, new air filter. very easy buy a manual it will tell you everything. very simple to do. why pay them tons of money, save it for gas youll need it this winter... good luck

Just a little FYI, Don't spend too much time looking for the air filter.

The other poster said to get a new air filter. Snowmobiles don't have air filters unless you take off the air box and put seperate filters over the carbs.

Honestly, the SXR is pretty easy to work on. There really shouldn't be much you need to do to get it up and running for the season. Grease all the chassis that have grease zerks, clean the carbs if necessary, check the compression, check/replace chaincase oil if necessary. Then check the condition of your belt and track (this includes bogeys and hyfax) and their tension. Then polish her up and wait for the snow! A set of plugs dont hurt either...

I would not spend the money to have some one else work on your sled, (how do you know they are gonna do what they say they are gonna do???) when you do it you know what has been done and in turn you are learning too, theres plenty of knowledge on here and over at Totallyamaha.net to get you through the season....

Get your rear suspension out of the sled and lube up the wheels and inspect for damage... all you need is your two hands, some tools and some muscle to get that baby out. and its free!

that foam piece on top of the air box is not a filter in the sense of stopping dust/etc, its essentially just to stop snow from getting in.

One hour of labor at a shop will cost you more than a good repair manual.

A pre-season tune-up is very easy to do and the knowledge you gain will come in handy if you breakdown along the trail. :)

basically what i said, a yamaha will not break down, most reliable out there if it MAINTAINED properly.... Just Prevantive maintence. do a leak down test, and a compression check.
