96 ultra primary clutch bolt is broke off at the threads, therefor no washers or head of the bolt to hold clutch on....Tried to pull clutch last year and could not get the sob off. so I put the clutch bolt back in and rode, well the last ride off the year I noticed that the bolt was missing, so I limped it home about 4 miles, with no clucth bolt... I get a new clutch bolt and sleeve and go to put it in today and cant get it to thread in, upon inspection with flashlight I see that it wont go in becuase the there is no hole for it thread into, it still has the threads from last bolt in it. can this clutch be pulled the way it is?? then I can maybe easy-out the broken part?? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.......

If the bolt is broken off in the end of the crank I think you can still use a clutch puller. The puller actually uses the threads within the clutch itself and just pushes against the end of the crank so it should work.

That is true. The bigger question will be whether the broken bolt will come out of the crank. On that you might try tapping it out carefully with the tip of a punch or small cold chisel, using the tip on the outer portion of the bolt stub and tapping in the CCW direction. Another option is to take the engine to a machine shop and have them remove it. They may want just the crank though. Hopefully the bolt broke from vibration stress and it isn't "frozen" due to corrosion. If it is simply broken off you might not have too much trouble.

Its not broke due to corrosion, I had it out last year and tried to pull the clutch and it wouldnt come off.

if you get the clutch off, and theres some bolt still sticking out, tac weld another bolt to the old one, and unscrew it out. just dont get it to hot for to long. as far as pulling the clutch, use a clutch tool and you should be able to pull it, if it dont come use an impact and just tap trigger it out. useing the clutch tool.

To remove a clutch manually the proper way to use a puller is to tighten it securely and then give it a sharp rap with a hammer right on the end. Preferably, use a soft hammer which won't so easily upset the end of the puller. Make sure the threads are clean and free of burrs before you start, and lube them well with a good quality lube to prevent galling.
