Hello everyone. I have 98 powder special I just bought but haven't used. Sled starts good. Sounds good. But will not go anywhere. The motor is suposed to have been rebuilt. Engine idols good but bogs out when reved. Could it be compensator system

how long did it sit for? the brake pads may be ceased to the rotor... also if you just bought it you should have the clutches and everything serviced, you never know when a crappy bearing is going to leave you stranded at the worst time

Ya I'd check the brake and also check what the screws on the primary clutch are set to (I think they're on the primary). Skidoos have numbers on the screws and you can set them to numbers 1-6. 1 being the clutch engaging at the lowest rpms and 6 being the clutch engaging at its highest rpms. If thats how it works on a arctic cat too I would check that. And the track didn't move no matter how high u revved it?

I would start at the engine and go from there, but try the easy things first. Your main clutch may not be any good if it takes high rpms to engage - or just set up way wrong. But, with the track raised, I'd try turn the secondary just to make sure there are no issues in the drive train. If the track can be turned readily via the secondary, then you can pretty much conclude that your problems are in one or both of the clutches.

Your primary should be closing around 4000 rpms give or take a few hundred. If its higher than that, it needs to be addressed. If the primary seems to be working in that range, then it could also be the secondary not having been put back together right. The secondary is supposed to resist opening. If it doesn't, the belt will get pulled into the "high speed/low torque" position deep in the sheeves and the engine won't pull the drive train from a dead stop.
