cooley 11-14-2002, 09:26 PM yes they use there own custom broker. my company gets dinged by them all the time. we have our own custom broker that we pay each month, but when sameday courier shows up with a ups package they want money. once we got a $45 usd package and they charged us $125usd for custom charges. well my boss just freaked and told them that we werent using them any more unless they started to use our custom broker. :cussing:
jwheeler 11-14-2002, 09:37 PM i have had no problems getting stuff sent through but i only use regular mail from the states if its at all possible.

OntRider 11-20-2002, 07:59 AM Rule #1 of buying online: Never, EVER, EVER use UPS.
Sled Dogg 11-20-2002, 08:48 PM I use ups all of the time. i even have an account with them, I normally use usps priority mail for light pkgs, and airborne for big ones like my mt bike i sold and shipped to CA. But fed ex and ups have a great middle ground over parcel post.

alscool 11-20-2002, 11:26 PM I know exactly what you felt when your supposed deal cost you a whole lot more
I would agree that the postal service (Canada Post) does not broker most shipments.
The question is who else but UPS ships parcels over 75 lbs?
POWERHAULIC 11-20-2002, 11:40 PM I also have an account with UPS. I have used them extensively for years. For the heavier items they are much cheaper and faster than USPS. No complaints from me.
PANTERAONE 11-21-2002, 09:46 AM ups is a rip off,i ordered some pins and teflon buttons from goodwin,i thought they would send them in the mail(i should have asked but forgot)this parcel weighs a few ounces...i was charged $50 cdn for fees and shipping, same when i ordered my performance head,i was charged$95 extra from ups for customs paper work, from now on if i order from the states its regular mail with insurance or i will not do business with them......no more ups :cussing:
dpaige 11-21-2002, 10:58 AM Anyone that has an Account with UPS has the customs brokerage fees included in the pricing.
If you are doing enough business to have an account with them they simple jack the price slightly over time and you won't really notice.
For those of us that only us the UPS service once, they charge the full brokerage fee immediately.
It is usually very expensive as well, then you are charged gst on the brokerage fee as well.
highlandergerman 11-23-2002, 10:26 AM How does all that work because we just had a pakage sent from canada, to our house, thru ups , and it did,t not cost us any more. SO i was just wondering what all the duty, ect is for.
IndySKS 11-23-2002, 10:35 AM First off I should say I am biased, I would NEVER !! deal with UPS , as a matter of fact I wouldn't let a deleivery guy on the property no matter what he had for me . My son used to work there and knowing the inside story and how they work and treat employies I have absolutly no use for them.
I bought a track from a guy in Montana and he wanted to ship it UPS at a cost of $70 USD ..plus brokerage fee's ....lord only knows what that would have been . To make a long story short I convinced him to send it by regular mail , $29 USD and no brokerage fee's . It was here in 3 days .
LadyK 11-23-2002, 10:41 AM Make sure if you live in cananda and are buying from US off of ebay they mark it as a gift. Then you dont have to pay duty + GST. I had one that was not marked as a gift and had to pay more money when i picked it up at the post office :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:
