ok, so started up the vmax first time this season, started normal, got it warmed up on choke, but it won't idle. I put a can of sea foam in the tank trying to clear it up, but to no avail.

it will run fine once you get it going, you can start it and just go, when you let it come down to idle, or any low speed below 3500 rpm, it just dies... high end is fine though, I put about 100 miles on it, and still the same, no better....

any ideas on a fix? what can I do?

thanks
Jason

Did you check it all over before the season? Clean the carbs, check the air box, change the plugs...all the little stuff. I would start with the carbs since thats most likely where the problem is. You could try adjusting the idle, but they most likely need to be cleaned. Change the plugs too, cheap and can eliminate one possible problem

changed the plugs, ran sea foam through the tank.... didn't take the carbs off and clean, because it looks like a ridiculous job lol

thats probably the next thing though...

Look at the plugs. Wet means too rich or you lost ignition.
Probably your running lean (white/dry or very pale)
Does the choke make it better when warm ?

I had the same problem with my 03 600 triple clean the carbs, paying special attention to the pilot jets the opening on these are very small and plug easy. Go to this page in the tech section it takes you through it step by step. http://www.totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles/aaTECH/carbs/cleaning_carbs.htm

My 01 SRX has the same problem every fall. The idle jets are so small they plug almost every year. It's a job to pull it all apart and clean but it's cheaper and faster than rebuilding an engine that's been too lean!
