Hi there

I just bought a 1998 Arctic Cat Pantera and while using it for the first time this weekend after snowmobiling for about 3 hours all of a sudden while travelling about 50 mph I suddenly lost power and came to a stop. I was able to re start it and it ran fine for about 10 more minutes then the same thing happened again. This time I had trouble starting it and was not able to excelarate at all. It only seems to be running on one cylinder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Earl

It could be spark on one side or it could be a fuel problem.

As long as it runs on one side, any electrical issue will be be in the wire, the cap, or the plug. I often swap plugs if I see such a problem. If it switches sides, then you know you have a plug problem. If not, then you know it is wiring or cap.

If both sides have good spark, then it's most likely fuel. Ice is often a "starvation" culprit. Sometimes a good dose of isopropyl can cure an ice problem if the machine can sit and run for a few minutes. I rarely use the full (10 oz) bottle in a 12 gallon tank, but it can be done. Sometimes an ice issue might require getting the machine into a warm place to thaw out. Just make sure you get the water out of the system. Drain the water traps on the carbs and use isopropyl in the tank. (Make sure you keep the fuel cover on the tank until the fuel is warm or else the liquid fuel will act just like cold glass - except that instead of covering the surface with frost, the frost will constantly settle leaving a fresh, cold surface to attract more moisture.)

I agree with Whiskey sounds like a plug or ice also add some carb cleaner to the gas.

I have a 74 Super Stinger 440 that I just lost spark on the left cylinder. I can disconnect the ground from the right side coil and can get spark on the left, but it is a weak spark. Any Ideas? Thinking it might be a capacitor. I can swap coils and the same
symptoms occur.

I don't even like to think about those old points and condensor engines, let alone recall anything about them. However, I'm thinking there was a set of points and a condensor for each side - under the flywheel- so, that may be where the problem is.
