Hi, Newbie here: I just picked up an 87 Polaris Indy 600. I bought it from a friend of mine who was meticulous about taking care of everthing, but the machine had not been ridden since 95. He would prep it to ride every year since then but just wouldn't.

I'm wondering where polaris hides the serial number so i can register it? also everything works but the grip heaters, I tried chasing them with a multi meter but can't see where they ground? do they ground through the bars? How much voltage should I be getting (at idle anyways)?

Also, how can i tell for sure what year it is? I've looked on polarisman.com and it looks like the picture of the 1987 model indy 600, but i would like to know for sure

Thanks,
Putnam

your serial number and date of the sled will be on your tunnel side...just below the seat. Your handwarmers should be grounded to the main ground of the machine (I think) make sure your wire are good where they go int o the grips. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to take a peek tomorrow when I get home from work. Also, anybody know about how many rpm the clutch should start to grab at? right now its grabbing at about 5000 rpm but i don't know if its suppose to or if things need to be taken apart and greased

I am pretty sure it should be around 3500 - 4000 rpm

5000 is a little high unless your friend set it up that way , check your belt also put the sled up on a stand and let the track and belt run for a while if the belt and track have not been run for a while this well round the belt out again , clean and lube the clutch
l use wd30 and lube all bearings around wheels under sus.
