I wanted to see if anyone could give me any advice on this sled (2000 Zl600 efi), as I am in the process of buying one. This will be the first time I have owned a sled so I am not really certain what I should be looking for as far as problems that this particular year of might have had. The guy looking to sell it, tells me it has been in storage for the last 2 years, should that tell me I should be concerned about any specific problems/what should I look for? From what I am told the sled is in good condition (minus a small crack in the wind shield) and has about 4,4xx miles on it. I am thinking I will be trail riding the sled a little bit and will probably use it to pull a small portable fish house (Fishtrap Yukon..130-180lbs) once in awhile.
I am going to go ride it on Sunday and thus far we have not discussed price, but I know that he is a motivated seller and is willing to accept a fair offer, anyone have any thoughts as to a fair price? Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated,as I am just trying to make an informed decision. Thanks!!

I had one of those from 2000 to 2005. It was a great sled until the last year, then the clutch came apart and bent down at a 45 degree angle. It's a little hard on gas, but luckly it has a 13 gal tank. Never had one problem except for the clutch. My friends wife still rides hers. We bought them at the same time. They haven't had any problems that I know of. Just do the basic maintenance and you should be fine.

Thanks for the insight, it is much appreciated!
Anyone have anything else to add about the particular year of sled?
Thanks!

i had an '01 from '03 to '08 and it was awesome only problem i had with the engine was a coil at about 4000mi and it was like $100
I understand that the 600 motors in 2000 had issues with the rings moving around on the piston and catching the ports. not much you can do about that unless its been rebuilt and updated

I also owned a 2000 ZL 600 EFI and it was a good sled. A couple of things to be aware of are the Stator problem (a higher rate of failure than other sleds) and I believe they have non-rebuildable shocks, so if the shocks are bad, you have to replace them.

the 2000 600 is hard on both gas and oil, very costly sled to run.
Good performance, handling and reliability though !
Mine was a 2000 ZR600EFI

I have 99 zl600 efi w/7500 miles. Installed M-10 suspension couple seasons ago. I have had stator repaired twice, they are notorious for failing. I ride it hard though and it has seen a lot of punishment. Plan to rebuild the clutch every thousand miles or less. I generally get one season on the primary, depends on mileage mostly. Drive shaft bearings are high failure too so be sure to check that, mostly the one on the speedo cable side under the secondary. ZL shocks are not rebuildable and are pricey. And yes, it likes the fuel.
