i have a 95zr580 that has given me too many problems, has a rebuilt top end.it was running fine all week on the lake then i started down a pathway about 20 miles per hour to get on the lake and stopped the sled before to adjust my helmet and i noticed the engine acting like it wanted to quit but would stay running.it was just like someone was pulling the spark plug wires off just for a split second then putting them back on.it seemed to run a little weak,it started back up a few times and now it simply wont start, any ideas i can do because at this time after spending $460.00 at a shop last week that did an absolute hack job on my sled i feel like throwing it up for sale as it sits because i am so sick of the thing.but before i do if there is something ic an check,i would rather do that, thanks for any responses.

i checked spark this morning and it had spark and it started up like normally before and will start right back up once running but seems to still has the problem but will mostly stay running but still has that issue.

check all your wire connections mine had a loose wire the other day and would pop and bang. thought i blew her up again but found a loose connection on the tether switch fixed that and no problems since.

because you just re-did you top end i would hope it wasnt that going out on you again.
did you check the throttle control switch in the handle bar? thats the first thing i would check.
you can bypass it by connecting all the leads together that go into the handle bars (3 wires).
or
after looking and following all the external wires, check them inside the engine behind the flywheel as well. I have seen multiple sleds that needed new stators or magnetos, or just simple patch work. just make sure that if you do take the flywheel off that you PULL IT OFF! if you hit it with a hammer your gonna be in a world of hurt when the magnets come loose when your riding.
it might also be the cdi box. i hear a lot of those go bad. never experienced it though.
best of luck, keep posting

thanks to the 2 fellows for responding.i was told about the throttle play switch/or whatever that goes bad.i did find and fix the problem thank god!.i usually leave my sled outside uncovered(but dont anymore)and i do not have hood screens so when it snows some snow goes inside the engine compartment.while it was running today i moved around the 2 plug-ins that eventually lead into the stator,a couple times and the sled just died,i unhooked the connections and they were all wet.i dried them off, cleaned them, and problem solved.i thought i might have had a bad stator or timing issue originally,i knew it was something electrical by what it was doing.hopefully this post helps someone with the same issue.take care fellows.
