HI i have a 2000 zr 600 millenium edition with roughly 1400 miles on it and it runs like a champ. i have considered trading it for an 04 f7 efi with reverse with 3800 miles on it the only thing it needs is a new hood cause its all busted up but everything else runs perfect

what do you think deal? or better to stick with what i got

heh, If you can get an f7 for somewhere even CLOSE to what you get rid of your zr for, than do it... but be prepared to get out your wallet... somehow i find it hard to believe you can trade it straight up. hoods for f7's aren't cheap, you can get one from browns leisure world for around 500 - 600$ unpainted.

good luck... but be careful and find out why he is prepared to trade... sounds kind of fishy to me, there may be more wrong with it than he is leading on.

500-600 UNPAINTED!!!! You need to look elsewhere for your parts Matty! I just had my hood replaced by an arctic cat dealer-painted and decals already on it for the same price range.... Will look for the reciept because I think it may have even been cheaper then that!

As for the original poster... Trading straight up for the F7 would be a great deal depending on hood costs. As Matty said look the sled over very closely to be sure the deal is as nice as it sounds. Also it depends on your riding style as to which sled you will like better. The first generation "F" sleds are very tipsy and alot of people do not like the way they handle. I personally love it...but many do not. Going from a ZR to the F sled it will surely feel very tipsy to you. My old man has a 2000 ZR 600 and it is a MUCH diffrent ride then my F7. I like the way the ZR's handle and the stability of them.

ya i know it kinda sounds to good to be true he said he wants something a little slower for his daughter to ride he seemed like a nice guy on the phone but that doesnt mean anything. i could get a hood from a salvage yard for 400 at the most. i heard the 04's have a weaker chasis and the tunnel can twist and what not. im going to check it to see if that has happened and i guess there was a steering recall for that year so il check that out to

dont forget, I live in Canada, not only is our dollar worth less, but the shipping costs kill us

and as far as the cracking of the chassis goes, they all do that right along the two posts that the steering colomn is. and the recall on the steering shaft is on ALL of them, no big deal. yes the bulk heads crack very easily, i went and ripped out my motor and re-enforced what needed to be done and have not had a single problem and i beat the shit out of my ride, all in all it is a great sled, it works well on the 9' steel ramp we have

Ya didn't think about the shipping costs to Canada... that sucks they cost so much unpainted.
I couldn't find the estimate paper with the price of my hood. I had a cat dealer get it for me...came painted and decaled already from Cat. I know it wasn't anymore than $500 for it.

9' steel ramp....yeah your a nut bro.
I'm not big into jumping them...some minor air but no man made ramps. hehe
My F7 is great in the trails and I ride pretty rough with it in the moguls. I havent seen any signs of cracking at the posts yet.

i sat on an 06 f7 sno pro at a local dealer and it felt like it was extremely high and corners would have to be taken very slow does anyone know if the older 04 sits any lower ? im just tryingto figure everything out before i take the big step

I THINK the newer ones 06 and up did sit a bit higher. The seats were raised in the back to give you the rider forward positioning. The 2005 and earlier models had standard seats that do not tip forward. They make riser blocks that can be added to the seat of the 03-05 F sleds to give that same rider forward feeling. My cousin tried one on his F7...while the new brake light that came with the seat wedge was MUCH more sporty looking then the stock F7 brake light..the seat wedge itself sucked IMO. You couldnt sit back at all, if you tried to sit toward the back of the seat (which I do sometimes when getting tired or sore) you would just slide right back down toward the gas tank. Very uncomfortable if you ask me...I like being able to position myself where I want to be on the seat, not where the seat wants me to be. Maybe its just me but I love my stock non rider forward seat.

actually, my 05 has the same seat as the 06, its the 03 and 04 models that have the older style seat... just to clarify.

i decided not to get the f7 because i know that the sled i have now is problem free and i dont want to regret it now exspecially since it has a messed up hood who knows what else is beat to shit on it. thanks for all the help

that is best, if you are unsure, the worst feeling in the world is the transition of feeling like you got a great deal to crap i got ripped off! I hope your sled gives you many miles of problem free riding! have fun!
