wildcatjamie 01-22-2009, 10:48 PM ok ive spent some time getting familar with the parts engine,,,,i was told by a gut to check my impulse lines,,,1 was all cracked to shit,,gonna go out in the next day or 2, clean my fuel pumps,,trim my spark plug wires,,get new plugs again,,it was said that all this trying to start it would have the base of the motor to be full of unburnt fuel and oil mixture,,there is no drian plug on the base,,i dont want to take me cylinders off if i dont have to,,i f i do i can drain it that way,,if my reeds are bad ill take em off and drian it,,but im gonna try the new impulse lines b4 the reeds,,could i drain all fluids and have my sled turn upside down for a few hours to let that shit drain,,or do you sugggest a different way,,if i do do the reeds im gonna do the stator @ the same time,,im trying avoid this and a $200 gasket kit,,i dont understand why theres no drian plug on the crank case,,would it be due to to much compression,,are there engines with them i was told there was,,could i tap and die a plug......im typing this once and pasteing it to 6 sites,,hopefully hear of a way to drain my motor,,,,also could i just dump some more gas into the the engine and lite it,,burn it all off,,would this f@&K MY ENGINE OR ANY SEALS,,i want to make sure theres no unwanted fuel in it before i try to fire it up after i change the lines ,,thanks
tjfouks 01-23-2009, 10:54 AM do you have know what you are doing?
Wyelde 01-23-2009, 02:34 PM Some sleds have drain plugs on the crankcase, some don't. I don't see putting one in as a good option.
First, you should be able to suck the majority of fluids (If there is any) out through the Reed Valve ports with something like a turkey baster with a flexible tube attached.
Or, just pull it over a bunch of times with the fuel turned off and ignition off. that should cycle enough out. You just don't want to have so much in there that it hydrolocks Any remaining will get blown out the exhaust when you get it started
Whatever you do, don't try to burn it out with a fire :P And tipping it over might work, but you would have to drain both the gas tank and the oil tank.
I'm not sure that you will even have significant gas in there. If your problem was a broken impulse line, that means you wern't supplying the impulses to the fuel pump to make it work. So, how did so much fuel get in there?
wildcatjamie 01-23-2009, 02:36 PM say what now? do i know what im doing,,,of course not if im asking,,dont see you with any ideas except smart ass remarks
wildcatjamie 01-23-2009, 02:40 PM that last comment was for tjfouks,,anyways,,the fuel would be in there from manually priming it,,,gonna get @ it this weekend,,probly tonight,,,working on this problem for 3 weeks doesnt encourage me to do anymore work,,,but now i have someley way ill do it,,,,,,thnaks
wildcatjamie 01-28-2009, 02:05 AM if it is the impulse line,,,would that cause it to not start even by manually priming it?
Wyelde 01-28-2009, 10:30 AM You didn't say if you had checked for spark, are both plugs sparking? Also what year amd model is the sled? I guess I was thinking it is a Wildcat from your signon, but what year? and is it EFI or Carb?
wildcatjamie 01-28-2009, 06:47 PM its a 1993 wildcat 700 carb,,,,what is hydrolock,,is that when you pull it, it pulls ya back into it
wildcatjamie 01-28-2009, 06:49 PM oh sorry forgot,,yes its getting spark
Wyelde 01-29-2009, 09:16 AM What I meant by Hydrolock in your case would be having so much fluid in the crank case that it prevented you from pulling the sled over at all since fluids do not compress.
If you are getting spark, it does point back to fuel. What happens now when you try to start it? Are the plugs wet? or dry?
You said you have tried starting it by manually priming it, do you mean you put gas into the spark plug holes? Is it not even trying to run when you do that? (You should not use more than a teaspoon amount in each)
wildcatjamie 01-29-2009, 12:21 PM it kinda wanted to go last night but then it was stoppin dead when i pulled it,,near tr=earing my shoulder out ,,so i left it,,yes plugs are wet
wildcatjamie 01-29-2009, 12:56 PM could it be my fuel pumps delivering the incorrect amount of fuel ? i have another set of pumps here,,,should i try em ,,,,,im just disgusted with the sled and dont even want to go near it now,,everytime i think its something it isnt,,,pretty discurrageing man,,,missed all winter so far,,,unbelievable
wildcatjamie 02-03-2009, 04:22 AM ok,,,i went out to take the stator out,,was gona bring both to be tested,,but when i went to put the puller on to take the mag off it just feel off,,right away i noticed NO timing key,,,put a new 1 in,,put it all back together,,like before,,,a 1/4 pull ha F@&k yahhh it fired up,,who hooo about time,,,,,,but im only running on 1 cylinder,,the clutch side is gettin to much fuel i think,,when i pull the plug cap off it doesnt do anything,,when i pull the mag side cap off it shuts off,,will start with 1 plug on mag side but will not on the other side,,had the carb off and back on,,then off again,,and the bowl was full so its getting fuel,,when i sit the plugs on the head and pull it over,,i get nice good spark from both sides,,the clutch side plug gets soaked, the mag side which is the only side running is dry,,,when i put the timing key back in does it matter where i put it in,,i mean like sideways from the top,,would only fall out if you done it form the bottom,,does anything have to be lined up,,i didnt touch the stator so it shouldnt be out of timing,,,is it a carb problem ,,timing problem,,,,or a coil problem,,,,i think its getting to much fuel,, the carbs i have on now have a primer hooked up to em,,the other 1's dont,,,if my carb is no good can i change the 1 and keep my primer hooked up to 1 and not the other,,or should i take the primer right out and go with both carbs,,i dunno much about carbs, the basics is about it
Wyelde 02-03-2009, 09:18 AM Sounds like you are at least making progress.
Try swapping the carbs side to side. If the problem moves, it's in the carb. Could be a stuck float valve, or a stuck choke.
If the problem does not move with the carb, I would check your spark plug wires. Since they both spark at the same time, you can switch them as well. If the problem moves with the spark plug wire, you have some sort of electrical problem, bad wires, connector, coil, etc.
wildcatjamie 02-08-2009, 09:51 PM had the sled out last night,,working real good,,,fowled a plug,,,changed them pulled it over it pulld me back in,,,pulled again it started but is in reverse,,there is no reverse on it,,,was told i could pull my cord all the way out clamp it off and turn the primary forward a few turns and this will fut it in forward again,,,,is this true,,i lost my phone and wallet, found the wallet but not the phone then this took place,,can just imagine the humor i was in,,,,any sugestions other than leaving my wallet home hahahah have to laugh today
