Ok so heres the deal I have a 87 pantera L/C given to me a couple of weeks ago. He thought the drive shaft was bent but when I took it apart I found that the speedo side bearing was toast.

I bought all new bearings for both shafts. I put everything back together the way it came apart. I noticed that the speedo side bearing does not go onto the shaft all of the way like 1/4 inch and is pretty much held on by the locking collar. I gave it a try and put it together.

BTW...I tightened the lock collar the right way.

Since then I have went through 2 bearings on that side,in only a few weeks.. Due to the bearing eccentric part braking off with the locking collar. Allowing the drive shaft to fall out. The first bearing was from MFG and the second was from a farm supply store so its apparently not a quality issue.

What is going on I cant figure this out for the life of me. Is there something I am missing?, or is the shaft for the wrong application?, previous owners mistake. Could someone give me the length of this shaft?

Otherwise I am talking it so a machine shop and having the shaft cut so the bearing/collar can slide on farther. Using a spacer block on the tunnel to make up for the difference.

Thanks
NIck
