Hello,
I am new to the forum and wanted to know if someone can tell me if there was an el tigre model made in 1989? I am thinking of getting a used snowmobile (trading a 3 wheeler on craigslist) and the current owner of the sled said it has "el tigre 4000" onthe side of it and he believes it is a 1989 model but not sure and could be older. What years were an el tigre 4000 manufactured? He says that it runs good but my concern is being able to get parts for it if its too old. Is there any kind of a cutoff year that parts get really hard to get? And where is the best place to get parts for an older sled like this if I make the trade? Also anything I should look for in the sled besides running good and condition of track? My family used to have an old snowmobile growing up and loved to ride it when I was a teenager and think that my kids would also love the sport. We got to the point to where we couldn't get parts for that snowmobile and finally put it to rest and I don't want the same thing to happen with this one. Is a 4000 a 440cc engine or is it a 400cc? Any information is greatly appreciated. The owner is supposed to call me back this evening and bring over for me to see, so the sooner I can get some information the better. If I get the sled I will be sure to post about it and maybe put up some pics.

No. I believe all there was, was the El' Tigre EXT, and the Wildcat 650 for that year. I think that the 4000 was 1979 and older. There was a 5000 which was a 440cc in 1988 along with a 6000 which was I think a 530cc.

Browns Liesure World and Alpha Sports both carry alot of parts for pretty much any year of cat...and ya gotta love eBay....and according to Alpha, they made a El Tigre 6000, El Tigre EXT, and El Tigre EXT Mountain Cat in 1989...and I think that they all have a 530 L/C engine

The el tigre 5000 had a 440 L/C in '87 and '88
The el tigre 6000 had the 530 L/C from '85 on up (before that it was a 500 L/C)
And there was a el tigre 4000 built in the later 70's (it has a 440 free air..)
If any of this info is wrong please correct it, as I am getting it from Alpha Sports.
