I have a 93 polaris indy 500 efi that keeps overheating. When i check the antifreeze it is empty but if i let it sit the antifreeze is full again any ideas on why my sled is doing this?? i also found a hole in my exhaust near the manifold and was wondering if that could have anything to do with it..... the piece that goes around the manifold is rotten off

new to sledding but from my car knowledge although its weird to have one fail like that it might be a thermostat problem maybe try for a quick fix adding when its hot and seeing if you overflow when it cools off

If you are have overheating problems, and you can see coolant being low when you check the level, it is low on coolant. You must be having a problem filling the system all the way up. The best way to help this problem is to raise the front of sled at least a foot off of the ground. Run the sled with the coolant cap off. Keep filling the system when possiable. Keep doing this untill the engine is fully warmed up. Cap off the cooling system while it is still running. Now the system should be full. An hopfully that will take care of your problem.

yes it does overflow when it cools down. i can drive it for about 10-20 minutes then the overheat light comes on then when it cools down everything full again

are you sure it is running to the exchangers under runners? also, are you doing a lot of road running or low snow conditions as the snow is what cools your antifrezze in the exchangers.....just a thought.

im not sure if your familiar with lake simcoe but i can make it from beaverton harbour to thorah island before it overheats and i have to shut it off. my buddy goes with me and he has an indy 650 which doesnt overheat but i heard they are notorious for overheating

Are you using a 50/50 mixture? Last time you changed or tightened your H20 pump belt? They get hot and stretch, especially if old. Could have a bearing going out of your water pump as well. Is your sled inside or out? If you used straight water part of an exchanger could be frozen? Is part of the front exchanger damaged from a rock, ice etc so that it isn't all being used to cool the water. Are you running the correct spark plug? Many things to check, but something should show up.
