I have recently acquired a 1979 El Tigre 5000, and in order to get it running good, I want to clean the carbs and replace the jets. I have not been able to find any information as to the recommended carb settings (i.e. pilot air screw turns out). Does anyone know where I might be able to find such information?

I've got the same machine(81') with series 5000 liquid cooled, and twin Mikuni's. I was told a good starting point for the air screw is 1 1/2 turns out---then vary it until there is minimum bog between idle and W.O.T.
I've only been on this machine once--yesterday(65*@ 3500ft.) and it was fine for a half mile---then it would only pull enough rev's to get me back to the parking lot. I had the same problem 2 weeks earlier with one of my 2 Ski-Doo's w/440 rotax liquid cooled. I've heard that warmer temperatures are as much of a problem jetting wise as elevation---looks like we both have some to learn still.
By the way--I have extra parts/ machine I may want to get rid of if Your interested.
I'm in Portland Oregon--------Ron
Ps--I have jetting info on The drive belt cover of my machine if You are interesed .

If you are planning on keeping the sled, get yourself a manual for it. It is definetly worth its weight in gold.
oregonron is correct though, 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated is where you start your air screw at and if my memory serves me correct, 3 turns out from lightly seated is where you start your throttle stop screw. good luck with it.
