found a polaris 97 classic 500 touring with 600 miles and a polaris 96 XLT 600 touring with 1200 miles, both for $4300.
What are the negetives to purchasing machines of this age. Im sure they are like new as to use, but does lack of use make them not worth purching. these folks will not come down to the NADA average retail price. said the low usage makes them worth more. advice please. should i use the money for newer machine or is this a good buy.

Too much $$$$ no matter how few miles. Lack of use won't hurt them but storage method has an effect if they are in a damp environment without being "summerized" properly. I can understand where these people are coming from but age depreciates prices as much or more than mileage.

yeah...overpriced for the years.....you could get a set of 2000(atleast) or newer for that kind of $$$$

I agree with the others...too much money. I just bought a 2005 500 xcsp, 2005 Supersport, 2001 Enclosed Trailer along with covers, saddlebags, a couple gallons of polaris gold oil, helmets etc... for $4,800 (american). Everything is in great condition and the sleds have about 3,500 miles each. That just gives you an idea of what you can find if you are a little patient.

Yeah, it's the 550 fan. I've read all about the issues. It's interesting that the couple that had these sleds rode them EXACTLY the way that would cause the 550 to burn down, but they haven't had any issues. The rejetting has already been done, and I'm going to put the oil recirc mod in just to be sure.

Jim, where are you from? Used sled prices seem to vary quite a bit by region.
