Can I put a 88 Indy 400 motor in a 93 rxl 650 chassis?

does anyone know if you can put an 08 shaft motor into an 89 polaris 500 body?? I was told i could but want to double checkbefore i try it, also wondering if i could change the front end to a newer style? I like my sled but want to upgrade a little.
