Hello,
I am a 54 year (young) family man looking to explore the exciting world of snowmobiling. With all of the models and manufacturers out there what to pick. I do not have unlimited funds but I do not want to cheap out either. I work mostly in Northern BC and the snow is normally terrific. Once home in Southern Ontario there are numerous snow trails available.
I need some advice as to were to start. I attended a snowmobile show but the salesperson was not helpful at all.

Any advise would be welcome.

If you ride mostly in BC, you should really consider a full mountain sled such as a Polaris RMK or Arctic Cat M series. The longer track with deeper lugs will be a huge benefit when you ride in the deep powder. If you plan on riding a lot of trails, a crossover sled may fit the bill; the Polaris Switchback or AC Crossfire both have good trail manners but don't completely give up on the hills or in the powder.

Skidoo makes a great product as well, but you should try before you buy; some people don't do well with Skidoo's rider forward position.

I really like my RMK 600's, the 155" track seldom gets stuck, which is a real plus. They have adaquate power, especially for someone just getting into the sport. The 144" is also pretty capable, but works better if it's following in a track of another sled on those deep powder days...
