1987 Excel III track different than Enticer?

I recently picked up a 1987 Excel III for my son. I got the sled for a song, but the track was shredded. It appears that the Excel III track is a different pitch than the Enticer of the same year. This is a bit of a change for Yamaha. My older 1980 and 1982 Enticer and Excels always used pretty much the same parts. The Excel was simply a "Deluxe" Enticer with electric Start and handwarmers built on the Enticer chassis. It seems that when they upgraded the body style in 1986, they also made changes to the drive on the Excel? ALthough the sleds are identical, the drive shaft, pitch and track are different? Why would Yamaha do this?

Here is my question? Rather than try to find a super rare belt for this Excel, can I put the Enticer drive shaft in it and run a stock Enticer track? Any thoughts or experience on this?
