Been out there many times. We like staying at the Trailshead lodge (Cabins) because it's right in the middle of the trail system. But, the cabins have no kitchen. The lodge has a restaurant but only has beer at the bar. We have also stayed in Deadwood, but normally trailer out to Trailshead, they have a huge parking lot there. You can access Deadwood by trail, but it is not always good, and it is on the edge of the trail system. Staying in Deadwood is a good option if you like nightlife, pretty quiet at night at Trailshead

There is only about 350 miles of trails there, they do an excellent job of grooming. But, we generally use the trails just to get to the unlimited off trail play areas there. Sometimes we don't get more than 10 miles from the lodge all day. Watch out for stumps on the edges of the meadows
