First thing to check is the oil pump cable to make sure it's adjusted properly. On the lever of the oil pump, there's a small mark. On the body of the pump, there's another mark. Make sure the indexing marks are aligned at the idle position. To adjust the lever, loosen the two lock nuts above and below the cable bracket, rotate the adjuster part of the cable until the marks align, tighten the lock nuts. It's pretty simple. It also helps if the pipe/can aren't in the way ;)

If it's still giving too much oil, it's possible the pump has failed and it's time for a new one.

Really too much oil if the pump fails,?
The last time one failed on me the engine needed some pistons.

It can work both ways. If the internal pump parts become worn and can't meter correctly, setting the pump to spec may not cure the problem of too much oil. If the pump cable breaks, most of the time the pump goes to full oil, so again, too much oil.

I say most of the time, because I have also had a pump cable fail. It went to a "no oil" mode, I made it 4.5 miles before both pistons were toast. Gets spendy in a hurry, and that "squeak" sound is a sound that I really don't like hearing!

and you checked the adjustment?
it moves freely full travel? like bcdan said.
Does it smoke more than normal;?
Do you ride wide open throttle a lot?
