I widened the front on my 1990 indy 500 by cranking the rod ends on the links to the max(4 theads hidden)...about 1" wider and upgrading to 1" longer skocks to get more travel.
Double runner skis would also get you 1" wider on the ground
Adding more than 1 1/2" wider ....reweld the trailing arm mount or use 96 trailing arms

rewelding ...press out the bushing cut the trailing arm rear mount reweld at the angle you need.
I'm not quite sure on the 96-99 trailing arms,, but around that year I think rear mounting point was moved inboard a bit.
so if you put them on your sled you could widen beyond what you are limited to now, with custom size links

Of course going wide means less deep snow and ditch banging performance and you lose your stabilizer bar.

I've seen a Yamaha widened 6" with custom billet front links, it handled great on the groomed trails.

Personally some 10" big bar carbides and a few picks in the track (or bigger track)would be a better idea.
