: Mpem Modules
Gunner 11-19-2002, 07:48 PM I'm converting my flatslides to roundslides on my 01 800 Mxz.
So I needed an airbox to fit my round slide carbs
and purchased carbs, airbox, and MPEM module from a 00
700 Summit. When I get the package, I see it has DPM
which my 800 does not have. So now I'm curious if I
can install it.
- How can you tell if an MPEM module it any good?
- How can you tell if a DPM module is any good?
I assume the MPEM module from a Summit is programed
differently than one for an MXZ, but I'm not sure. Is
that the case?
Can I reprogram the MPEM module for the 00 700 Summit
for an 01 800 MXZ? Does the dealer have the capability?
I've checked part numbers for the parts on a 00 700 MXZ,
00 800 MXZ, and a 00 Summit 700. They are different, but
I'm guessing its just different jetting in the carbs and different
programming on the MPEM. The airbox and DPM's are the
same on the two 700's.
Any feedback on this is appreciated.
Hardcore & Pimped Out 11-19-2002, 08:02 PM I dont see why you have to replace you MPEM.
The only things that I think you need to do is,
1. Replace carbs with round slides
2. Replace throtle cable(flats and rounds have different cables)
You dont have to change the airbox, flat and round refer to the slide, not the throat.
Sounds to me like you are trying to do too much.
It is not that hard to change flats to rounds or vise versa.
A friend of mine went from rounds to flats and it only took him about an hour or so
Gunner 11-19-2002, 08:08 PM That wasn't the question. I don't have DPM on my sled today
(different MPEM module for non DPM sleds) and would like to
know if I can install it. But to install it, I would need to reprogram
it - I think. Can this be done?
And yes, you do need to change your airbox, oil pump, throttle
cables, and reed cages to go from flats to rounds. Both the outside
bores on the engine and airbox side are different from the
flatslides to roundslides.
Hardcore & Pimped Out 11-19-2002, 08:12 PM Thats funny, a friend of mine who works at a dealer went from rounds to flats and he didnt have to change his air box or his oil pump. Just his carbs and throttle cable
Gunner 11-19-2002, 08:17 PM What kind of sled? Maybe its a little different.
I had considered just cutting my 800 airbox out a little and
installing different boots, but opted against it when I saw
this airbox on ebay.
The oil pump is ok, but the lever was not long enough on
my 800.
yeah, I don't know why the doo flatslides and roundslides
are so different. Probably to save money someplace.
Luckily, I had the reed cages from my 700 or else that would
have been another expense!!
Hardcore & Pimped Out 11-19-2002, 08:22 PM You say you found an airbox on ebay.
I have never been on ebay, but from what I have read in these forums there are alot of people getting parts from there. Is ebay any good?
Machzzzz1 11-19-2002, 08:25 PM DPM requires a few sensors which you would have to add. There are probably a few parts that go along with it. And my guess is that you would need the computer for that system. However you have to make sure that the computer knows which engine it is adjusting for.
Gunner 11-19-2002, 08:29 PM Ebay is decent in my opinion. I've only once gotten a rotten
deal, and I'm not even sure that it was rotten. I bought a
lower crank case for a Rotax 700 engine. The guy told me
the crank had 0 miles on it. I assumed it was new, but it
wasn't. He told me the crank was new. There was no serial
number on the engine - so I don't know if it was stolen
or not. Who knows.
Other than that, I've bought carbs, airboxes, springs, helixes,
clutches, tracks, studs, jets, golf clubs, etc. on ebay without
any problems. You basically have to watch who you are buying
from (look at their feedback) or who is buying, and you won't
get ripped off.
Go to www.ebay.com and search for an item you are looking for.
ZIPPARS02mxz800sp 11-19-2002, 08:30 PM ebay has some good deals but be carful i had a helment shipped from usa to canada and it was shipped ups and they showed up at door and wanted 48.00 custom broker charges .:( just ship regular postal service. :hallo1:
Gunner 11-19-2002, 08:31 PM It looks like all the sensors are there. The only additional
connections are (1) to the airbox which I got with the
summit purchase and (2) to the DPM moudle which also came
with the summit purchase.
My assumption is the MPEM is different as you state in your
post, but do I need to purchase a new one or can I use the
one from the Summit and reprogram it?
Hardcore & Pimped Out 11-19-2002, 08:32 PM Holy crap! I didnt know you could buy all that from ebay. I will have to check it out!
Machzzzz1 11-19-2002, 08:33 PM I dont know if there diffrent. I imagine that with a programer you could do the same with all of them. But i bet the software has changed since 2000
Gunner 11-19-2002, 08:36 PM So that would bring me to my next question. If you
had to purchase a new MPEM module for an 01 800.
Would you purchase one from 01, 02, or 03?
