Hi, I have a 1989 Yamaha Exciter that has weak hand grip warmers, you can feel them get warm, but they take a while and never get hot. are the grip heating elements going bad, or is there something else in the system that is messed up? I am looking to replace them and I know Yamaha sleds cannot use just any old warmers, but I want to make sure it's the warmers and not something else.
check for a good clean ground as well as all the other connections, including the switch. sounds like possibly some bad connections. then check the output from the stator to confirm the output is within spec. if they are warming a little, the grips have continuity and should be good. the problem lies outside the grips themselves.
ya like what snowdad said it could be lose connections or the ground and the power supply could not be good also if there is any burn marks or any imperfections (ex: cuts, holes) then they might not work good or at all
