Maybe that person was talking about the system that is in the new Vettes? A potentiometer on the foot throttle, and a motor that opens and closes the thottle plates,no cables.

It is a "drive by wire" system and it works just fine. If you have the 24valve Cummins engine, then you have a drive by wire setup in your truck as well. Mine has it, the new Common Rail Injection Cummins has it, My VUE has it, as does my friends Golf TDI.

That person was none other then myself.

From what I heard when you hit the gas you are telling the computer to activate a servo that controles the throttle body.

Its a fully electronic engine. My buddy got to drive one the other day and said it pulls like mad.

I dont care for the electronic stuff but im going to learn to live with it. GM is coming out with DOD (Displacment on Demand) and thats going to be the same type of electronics.

Accually it was described to me exactly like how mxz7 described the vette system.

The nice thing about all that electronic control is that if you want more power you just order a chip with a different program from some aftermarket company (I'm sure it's already available) and unleash all the power that OEM doesn't ship standard.

I wouldn't worry about reliablity issues various vehicles have been using electronically controlled throttles for quite awhile. Most of our ag equipment is that way and so is my pickup as far as I can tell.
