--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 95 Polaris RXL 650 w/EFI....it has died on trail 3x's in the past 3yrs for the same issue. Each time out it runs about 1hr then bogs and eventually shuts off due to drained battery. Seemingly a charging system issue-- possibly a bad stator. Seems to be more prevalent at low RPM's and occurs when sled is at road crossing or trail intersection. Once battery is charged sled runs good again for about another 1hr. Sled has been in a local shop where last yr they thought it was a bad battery so they replaced w/new end of the season....never got to ride it again until last week. When I was out last week, rode with handlebar warmers off for a hr or so (unintentional) and sled ran great, then turned bar warmers on & rode for 15min or so and it died. Not sure if there is an issue w/warmers or if warmers just are sucking more amps- in combination with EFI unit -so both on are draining VDC quicker...thoughts?

The battery charging system is separate from the hand warmer circuit, not connected.
. Separate coil in the stator it's own regulator/rectifier and wiring.

Start by testing the battery voltage with the engine off it must be 12.4 volts or higher. If not trickle charge the battery first.

When the static battery voltage is above 12.4 volts start the engine and check the batt voltage at 4000 rpm. Specified voltage is 13.6- 14.6 volts. If voltage is not in this range check the stator battery charg coil resistance using an ohmmeter. The regulator rectifier is mounted below the recoil disconnect it and check the resistance of the wires going into the stator.

gray to gray/white 0.4 to 0.8 ohms
brown/white to gray/white 0.3 to 0.5 ohms all three wires open to ground.

Make sure the reg/ rectifer is well grounded.

Using a voltmeter make sure there is battery voltage present on the red.

If all tests pass but the battery charge voltage is not in spec at 4000 rpm replace the regulator/rectifier

Thank you. I'll check this out and let you know.
