Was riding my new sled the other night and about 40 miles into the trip I notice the sled started bogging. I was riding some very ruff trails and was not exactly sure how much fuel was in the sled so I figured I better stop and fill up. It took almost 8 gallons, so I was wondering if maybe I had picked up some dirt from the tank. On the way home since was still ruff I was only running about 25-30 and when I would get on it it would bog? Any ideas what to check?
When I got the sled the idle was very high and I had to lower the trottle cables in order to get lower in speed so the clutch wouldnt engage. The idle screws didnt slow anything down. Also smells like its running rich.

Slides are probably sticking, clean the carbs.

If the idle screws won't slow the engine rpm, the throttle cables are set too high. I would suspect the synchronization of the carbs right away, although that is unlikely the cure for the problem. But if they're way out of spec, then there could likely be other things out of spec as well. Check the enrichment plungers (chokes) to make sure they're seating properly. Check the clutches, especially the primary, to make sure it is in good condition and working properly. The primary can be the biggest robber of power if things don't move well in it.

Other things which may contribute: compression, worn bearings which can lead to crank seal failure. (A worn and out-of-balance clutch can be hard on the crank and its bearings.)

Also found out the secondary clutch was binding up.
