I have a 97 Bearcat Widetrack. Was riding it this winter and all of a sudden it wouldn't move any more. Engine runs good but track will not move. Have a pretty good feeling that the chain is broken but I cant get the chain case cover off. I have removed all the bolts(theres like 6 bolts around the cover) as well as the shift lever, but the cover will just not come off. Was able to break free the top half of the cover, but the lower half just won't budge. Am I missing something or do I just need to pry it off a little harder?

I am not personally familiar with that brand/model, but from the schematics there may be 7 bolts holding on the chain case cover:

It is always well worth the money to buy a shop manual if you are planning on working on the sled yourself. Just one time that you don't have to take it to a dealer and it more than pays for itself.

In general some gentle tapping may help loosen things up, but if you really pound on it something will more than likely crack or break - chain cases are expensive to replace.

Every one I have taken off just pops off when all the bolts are removed - sometimes there is one last bolt that is hard to see or get to. But I have never taken one apart that has mechanical reverse either. Electronic reverse on a 2-stroke has to be considered one of the coolest inventions ever - right up there with fire and the wheel! :tounge:

Good Luck!
