I would never take out a working oil injection system. The oil pumps rarely fail, but the oil pump cable is notoriously fragile. Regularly check your throttle cables for wear - the oil cable can go first - and adjust it to the rich side of the adjustment mark. Make sure it takes the right amount of oil every ride. Premixing is annoying and the mixture will settle out - you reallly have to mix every time you ride. Since you have taken out the motor, run premix for you first ride *in addition* to your oil injection. This is to be sure you put it back together right and everything works. When you can verify that it's drinking enough oil out of the injection bottle, you are good to go.
The simple way to know if it's taking enough oil - if you used 6 gallons of gas it should use at least half a quart of oil. Hopefully more, I prefer to see oil use at around 40:1 rather than 50:1. If you only use 3 gallons of fuel it should take at least a quarter of a quart of oil. If it's less than that ratio, something is wrong.
If you have an old cable and don't want to replace it for no good reason, carry zip ties and check your cable whenever you take a break. You should always carry zip ties anyway, they can solve many problems. If the cable does go out, zip tie the oil injector actuator to 1/2 way or so and limp it home. If the throttle takes any real effort to open, chances are the cable is starting to unwind and gum itself up. Bad throttle cables are a serious problem so don't mess around if you suspect the throttle cable is going out. It can cause oil injection failure or stuck open throttle...you don't want either one.
