I have a 95 ZR skid I want to put on my 89 Cougar. In preparation I have encountered 2 possible problems

1 - drive and rear axle bogies different from 1989 skid to 1995 skid. Can I rebuild the 95 skid with my 89 rear axle bogies (this would accurately match in reaching the overall size difference as I have measured).

2- The rails are slightly different at front end. The 89 rails have a much tighter radius or bend than the 95 rails. About 1/2 inch height difference from flat on floor. About 1 inch length difference.

Will the 95 rails be too straight and have a potential to 'catch the track'?

All other bogies are same diameter. And all mounting matches up.

Anyone know if this will work. Or are other modifications neccessary?

Thanks kccats and R J Gleason

Got the skid in a few days ago. I did put on the bigger (7" )rear bogies from the 89 skid, I changed out the axle carriage to compensate for the heighth difference. The front of the skid is tangent with track, I can make some adjustment if it looks like its wearing too much on the front part of hyfax. Installed new bearings where needed, easy to replace. New hyfax. new bearing inserts on rear bogies. Overall I'm pretty stoked about this upgrade for my old sled.

I used a ratchet strap hooked to two axles and around top of rear suspension arm to compress rear springs, this worked great for mounting with out any wrestling the parts. After it was torqued in the strap slipped out neatly. Think I read that trick on this forum sometime ago?

Another nice trick is using an air hammer to remove some of the old stubborn bearings rusted on. found it helped to soak with Kroil, Deep Creep (some type of penetrating oil) for a day or two. And be really careful not to beat up the shaft too much with the air tool.

got a motor to put back together for the 89 cougar now. Have all the parts, just need to do it.
Then a spring upgrade in my 92 lynx.

Hopin it snow soon in central MN
