I am planning on having my entire exhaust ceramic coated. The Y-pipe, tuned pipe, U-turn and the muffler. All of them on the inside and out exept the muffler wich will be outside only.
Somebody I spoke to today says he didnt have good luck with his and it came off his tuned pipe. According to him its because the factory used cheap high carbon content steel that expands and contracts too much.
Is this just his own bad luck or is it true that it tends to come off the factory pipes?
My ceramic coater says no. Its fine. Just someone elses bad job.

Paul...I believe it insulates the pipe so that the operating temperature stays more consistent. Like a really good aluminum heat shield. I could be wrong though.

Ceramic coating will retain heat inside the pipes. Motorcycles have been doing this for years and a snowmobile will never see the hardships of a bike pipe. IE road debris, road salt, stones etc.
Snowmobiles that get trailered and not properly covered get covered in salt and road grime build up on the engine and pipe, heck even properly covered sleds in sloppy condions get wet and salt covered. *If this is the case they must be cleaned soon after or the aluminum gets pitted/white and the pipes turn to a rusty mess.
A ceramic coating will heat the pipe faster plus stop up to 50% of radiant heat coming from the pipe. *If you get the ceramchrome type from Performance Coatings they will not only ceramic coat the outside but also the inside to stop rusting and smooth flow. *This coating does not chip or peel (am not sure on the SwainTech white ceramic coating but the cermachrome does not). *I would highly recommend getting both the pipe and y-pipe done. *I have mine ceramachromed and the y-pipe black satin ceramic coated. *

one of the guys I ride with had his done by HTC and it looks good 3 years later no chiping or peeling.make sure if you spend your money that it is done by a reputable coater, there are several, or you could be throwing you money away.

Thanks Chip and Dooman.
Thats what I thought. I guess it was just a bad job that someone did to this guys pipes.
I am having my exhaust coated inside and out from the Y-pipe to the end of the 180 degree elbow to the muffler. The muffler will be coated on the outside only.
Its supposed to cost me $250.00 Canadian for everything including all the cleaning, sandblasting and metal prep.
Theres a few shops in Canada that do this for good prices.
One of them is online. Its www.topguncoatings.ca They did a header for my MR2. Its still perfect.
The guy I am going to is in Montreal. Topgun Coatings is back logged with work. They both charge the same price.
