New to forum and a long awaited return to sledding!
Well folks I last owned a sled in high school and it was a Yamaha Bravo 250 in 1991...so now after many years I recently purchased a 1990 Arctic Cat Jag 440 and a 2003 Yamaha RX-1.
So...first time out with them this week and the Jag ran great however I need help with the RX-1:
The '03 Yamaha RX-1 has 3600 miles on it. It had last been used last winter a few times. It had new plugs put in last year not sure what kind. I was a few miles into an easy ride on the lake at about 30 mph and I could not get it going any faster, it was kind of bogging down and felt like it was being limited, no power. Travelled about 10 miles this way. The next day was worse, it backfired like crazy and would move a few feet at a time then backfire and come to a stop. No trouble lights except when we checked all plugs for sparking then engine light came on. After re-starting no trouble lights were on.
I tried putting gas line anti-freeze in but that didn't help.
I read in the manual about the Throttle override system, so I disconnected it and took it for a rip and it seemed fine, no throttle issues at all.
Would this be a problem with the T.O.R.S. or plugs or carbs or the throttle cable?
Also while out on the ride low oil light came on...I put 0W30 Yamaha 4 stroke oil in it which I later find out is not the suggested oil to use as per the manual but the closes available where I was. Should I get the oil changed ASAP?
Any help, suggestions appreciated. I will be taking it in for servicing but want to be able to explain the likely problem to them to narrow down the time it will take them to figure the problem out and minimize the financial cost to do the work.
I haven't owned a sled in 20 years so...
Any comments suggestions are appreciated, thank you!
