For what it's worth, my wifes cousing just bought a 96 xcr, 144 studs, rebuilt fox shocks, rebuilt motor (very common in these sleds), very very clean sled, under 3,000 miles, 1 owner, with leather coat and leather gloves for $2,100.

This sled will probaly need pto crankshaft bearings in about 1000 miles or so. Pretty common. The oil hole feeding the bearings on the pto side not drilled big enough. it also depends on the sled i guess... some i have done had between 4000 and 5000 miles others didn't give out until between 6000 and 7000.

I just sold my 96 xcr sp 600 [aggressive body style] this fall with 3200 miles on it, 144 studs, rebuilt fox shocks for $2000. I don't know where your from but that sounds high.

I sold my 96 xcr 600 sp with 144 picks, re-cluched, geared down, oil holder, jetted, bags, you name it, at the beginning of last year for 2500. I never had a problem with it. Not even a fouled plug. Good Luck!

Just bought a '96 XCR 600 this summer for $1600. Came with loads of extras, including a new 133.5"-1.5" long track (minimal miles on the new track), new powder skis, carbides, cover, aftermarket windshield.............. only has 2800 miles.
I see where Kelley Blue Book lists these sleds for around $3000, but NADA lists them more in the upper teens to low $2000 mark. I wouldn't have paid anything over $2000 for mine.

That year was the 03 600CC motor, some one already mention the PTO hole being a problem but more commonly it would happen before 1k. Here is a link with all the information and very good setup tips.

These guys are all right when they say they had crank problems. I went through one crank (4700 miles full mod at 9400 RPM) on my '97, but my cousin had no problems with a stock motor with around 3200 on it. Great sled, just jew him down some!
