hi all iam new to this form I owen 1985 Yamaha Vmax 540 Sled runs OK (recently cleaned carbs) and rides, but has a clutch issue that keeps burning up belts the belt slips on the sheave sometimes so the track wont spin once you give it more throttle it will start to move. with the track elevated i cant move the track by hand at all
for optimum performance the track when elevated should move with a fingers push, meaning your clutches should be set so the track is almost moving by itself with the engine at idle, accomplish this with the driven clutch, try to get the belt roughly 1/8" above the circumference of the cluth, trial and error will give you the setting for this sled, the problem just may be that this sled was used for high speed driving and buddy may have tightened the track to get rid of track oval as i call it.i.e. more speed makes the track ballon, for lack of a better term, tighten the track prevents this but there is more friction so i do not get the logic, with every adjustment there is pros and cons
