I recently bought an enticer 300 with what i believe is a sl338 yamaha engine that came out of some sort of sno jet. I got the engine started the other day but couldn't shut it down. The kill switch, key or tether are all not hooked up. I have 5 loose end wires comin out of the engine aside 2 that are hooked to my coils. There are 5 wires on the chassis. I need to know which ones hookup to which so i can get everything working. I went to my local Yamaha Dealer for schematics but they turned me down saying my machine is way too old. I've tried browsing allover trying to find something but to no avail. Does someone possibly have a setup like this or know the color codes for the wires? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanx
I couldnt find anything to help me on that link. I didn't find out that this machine had engine changed out of it till i brought it home. Definetly pay closer attention next purchase.
I like doing the testing myself, I do not like this, but what colour wires are going to your coils? What colour's are left? Does one have an end that looks like it might go to a ground a round end so a bolt can go through it? I am thinking that out of the 5 wire 2 go to the coils and you have 3 left. What year is your enticer and how many wires are not hooked up and do any of them have around end that a bolt could go through for a ground and what colour is that wire. I do not want to break something on you or blow something. I have no guarantees here. I am scared of helping because someone could have crossed wires somewhere, I do not know, look for taped joints or something that is not stock be carefull.
Its a 1980. I have 1 white wire and 1 orange wire to my coils right now. Then theres 5 other wires not hooked up. One of each black, green, yellow, grey, and orange for a total of 7 wires. Non have a end for a bolt and i looked over the wiring harness, it all looks legit and stock. The wiring harness has 5 wires as well, black, blue, yellow, white/red stripe and orange. I was gonna get a test light today to check which ones were live but didnt get around to it.
So far I think this motor is a 71-72. Does this have something called a silicone stack? I have never seen this but it has 5 wires 2 male 2 female and 1 ground or do the wires go straight to the coils?
Yellow green and black you can connect this is your lighting system and the black is ground. The problem is the sled is CDI, disconnect the CDI box. Your motor is point and condenser. Are any wires hooked up to the sled or are the wires going straight to the coils? I'm looking at orange and grey for your coil wires. I cannot find any thing about a white wire. Could it be grey faded? The next problem is the sled has 1 orange wire feeding 1 coil which feeds 2 plugs. I' still looking.
Ok I don't know anything bout the silicone stack. There are no wires hooked to the sled right now at all. The coil wires come out of the engine and straight to the coils. Its possible the white is faded grey. Thanks alot for all the help so far. much appreciated. I'm gonna try tinkering on it again tommorrow.
Okay your key switch should have 4 wires, yellow, orange, grey and blue.Do you have a tester for continuity. Grey and orange should not change in the off position. It should read 0 in the on position. Does your kill switch still work or tether switch still work? I am thinking that 1 coil wire could go to the key switch and the other coil wire could go to 1 of the other 2. Make sure the CDI is disconnected, I do not know if back feeding it will will blow it or not. One day you might get the right engine and you will want the CDI. They are not cheep. Hope this helps
