I have a VK540 at low speed it will hesitate and will cut out if I don't pull the choke. At a reasonable speed its ok and it will idle perfect when its warmed up. I,ve tried another carburator still the same thing. I,ve cleaned the carburator and still the same. Do anyone have any suggestions to help me, any help is appreciated, thanks.
If it's a model with the TORRS safety unit then it will cut out if you try to feather the throttle when cold. It's a safety feature to which most VK owners disconnect as it will cut off the engine if it detects any fiddling with the the fuel system. Even ski-doo has something similar to the yamy TORRS and it's not as easy a fix as on a yamaha.
If you don't have the TORRS then look at your manifolds that connect your carb to the engine or breather/air box to the carb. Any leaks there will cause your problem. Once warmed up the materials expand and fill the gaps in the manifolds.
Lastly clean your carb(s) and use a small sewing needle or dress sizing pin to get into the tiny holes in the jets. More often than not there are such tiny holes at the bottom on the jets that are difficult to see and are very important.
