: First Ride In 29 Years!
Troll 11-25-2002, 07:04 PM We got 3 inches of snow today. I drove the 25 miles to where my sled is stored,,, I was getting a bit disapointed when I drove a few miles not seeing any snow on the ground,, obviously this must have been lake effect show, and rather localized. I pull into my friends drive, and see about 2 inches of snow on the 2 acre lawn. (He did say to me earlier "Come on up!) :)
I'm so nervous about it... I'd heard that my new MXZ 500 has 95 horsepower,,,,, my buddy has rolled my sled out of the polebarn, and is crankling it,, Brrrrr,,,Brrrrrr,,, Brrrrrrr, Braaaapa Brapa Brapa,,, it's idleing about 2800 rpm,, and smoking a lot... :D Braaaaaap,, he guns it,, and it settles down to about 1800,,, "You gotta let it warm up" he says,,, "Go get your gloves on" he says.
I nervously set astride of the smoking beast, my new sled jacket on, my bluejeans, and old faithful hiking boots,,, "Should I get my helmet?" I ask,,, "Nahh,, you aren't going to get too fast here" he says,, "You might want to put your hat on backwards though" he says. :) I take my favorite ballcap, (It says Jasper Canada on the front) and turn it around. I'm ready....
I ease the throttle forward, and proceed to round his large yard, looking for obstructions, or holes,, finding none.
The next curcuit I gun it a little on the straights,, This is getting fun! :D I'm gaining confidence,,
Wooooooo Hooooooooo I hammer it a couple of times during the next few laps, lifting the skis three times! My adrenilin is pumping,,, I hammer it hard into the next straight (Finding a bit later I took some sod off my buddies yard! Whoops!!) My eyes are watering, I see 7000 RPM,,, I try the brake,,WOW does this thing work! :D
One mile exactly, I pull her back into the polebarn. My heart is hammering in my chest,, :) I'm :inlove:
I have BIG respect for you sled heads! I have NEVER felt acceleration like this! Woooooooo Hooooooooo!!
I laughed for the next half an hour,,, and I have a a look on my face now, that I'm sure looks alot like it did when I was 16, and had my first "Back seat experience" :D
1 mile,, the best time I've ever had with my clothes on!
Machzzzz1 11-25-2002, 07:08 PM What I tell ya. That 500 hauls.
And I know that smile your talking about. Its what keeps me in the sport.
LadyK 11-25-2002, 07:24 PM Im glad you are so happy. Now you know what keeps us all waiting on edge for the snow every year. Adreniline... theres nothing like it :) :) :) :) :inlove:

andw1 11-25-2002, 08:19 PM I'll let you know how mine does after this weekend, the trails back home open on Sun. and they have about 17" of fresh snow.
mxz600rer 11-25-2002, 08:45 PM Gotta love it. Just wait till you really get to open it up for some fun. I'm smiling just reading your post. :D
OntRider 11-25-2002, 08:47 PM This sounds like me last season...
Last year, I got back into snowmobiling after a 10 year hiatus. I had never ridden anything with more than about 50HP (nothing liquid cooled, of course). I bought a brand new, non-current 2000 ZR700 last year. An underpowered 700, but it still dyno'd 110 HP. My first ride up a snow covered road was exhillarating to say the least. I hit about 60mpg in no time flat!
At any rate, didn't mean to ramble on, but I know where you're coming from :D
Mikadoo 11-25-2002, 08:50 PM Glad to hear you love it! Ain't it great! :inlove:
dwhee 11-25-2002, 08:51 PM This is what it's all about is'nt it?? :) :p :D  :hallo1:

So Manistee has a couple inches? I Am from Cadillac and I cannot wait until we get some snow. I go to college full time, so I couldn't afford a new sled, but I picked up a 1997 MXZ 670 and of course tuning it a little and pulling holeshots across the yard! Lets all do the snow dance! :D

yankee361 11-26-2002, 02:05 PM Troll-Only 46? I just bought my first sled (1997 MXZ 583) at 56 and can not wait until the first snow to let her rip(ex drag racer). Sport will either age me in a hurry or help shed a ton of years(hope for the latter). Am already planning my next sled when I get more experience- 2003 600HO Renegade with RER, electric start and a few more options to help her look like a good looking beast from the East! Enjoy and let us hear your first story of a lengthy ride-first was awesome. Good luck.
Troll 11-26-2002, 03:34 PM Thanks everyone for your replies. I'm still :inlove: and hungover from the adreniline rush :hallo1: I had yesterday. I'm Dooing the snow dance Jason! :D they say maybe up to 6 inches by Sunday! Wooooo Hooooo!! And mxz7,, My dress up plans are:

ballsout1 11-26-2002, 08:01 PM 29 years? what the frek was the last sled you rode? 29 years?, ya didnt look like you were from the dark ages or nothin' damn... if your that old you could be one of the original nuckle draggers.. lol.....
Troll 11-26-2002, 08:12 PM ~LMAO~ ballsout1 :D We took a Brontosaurus rib, and tied an old Johnson OB too it with a couple of vines,, you know, the OLD Green one. :p Then we tied some sticks to the prop, and tied Nikes to them. :blahblah: Steered pretty hard,, yah had to lean it a lot. ;)
Troll 11-26-2002, 08:16 PM My last Sleds:
Troll 11-26-2002, 08:18 PM The Previous one was "Tiger 10" a 1967 Olympic This one was my last. Dad's old 1970 335 Olympic.
RNM2399 11-26-2002, 08:25 PM LOL Troll! You remind me of my Dad. He hadn't ridden a sled since get rid of his in the early 80's. He thought my 583 was fast but when I got my 670 he took it across the road and around the field a few times. He came back and his eyes were as big as saucers. "#$%& that thing is fast! 80 miles an hour UP a hill? My old sled wouldnt go 80 DOWN a hill!" On and on like til I told him to shut up Mom will hear you and she will worry even more!
Glad to have another sled head in the sport Troll! Welcome to SnowmobileWorld!
Ryan
Troll! Great post!..... I think like some one else mentioned, ........"as we read...we were riding there right along with you!!!!!"
Not to dampen things here... just remember that as quicken as it goes across the lawn....it can also get you in to trouble that much quicker!!
We don't want to see you putting any "trail trophy's" on the side of that machine....or even worse getting hurt.......
I'm from down G.R. way, might have to come up and ride with you some time..............
DooZ.......
Machzzzz1 11-27-2002, 09:15 AM Yup. Good point dooz. THese machines are just as leathal as a gun if used wrong. But with a little responsibiltiy (like we all have.) There fun and a rush every time.
mxzx1 11-27-2002, 12:01 PM good luck man...what a great sport.....smiling ear to ear.....that white gold is on its way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MADDOG 11-27-2002, 02:03 PM Nice picture you look very happy. I myself can hardly wait to get to the trails. :D
Troll 11-27-2002, 07:10 PM Thanks again everyone! SWRules
Dooz, I'm a little scared of her and the acceleration she provides. I KNOW I don't have the reflexes I did when I was in my teens. :) I'll be careful. :inlove: I couldn't take putting any dings on that beautiful machine. :inlove: I know I'll get used to it,, but I'll keep it under controll. :D
I'd love to meet you! Have you ever attended the Cadillac Ice fest? I'm gonna be there.
Gol darnit Troll, what took you so long to find this site! I think all of us can agree we will get some good humor out of your posts. Keep it up. :D
Troll 11-27-2002, 10:04 PM MXZ7,,, what can I say? :D I :inlove: it here!
I hope to entertain a few more times.. :)
warner 11-28-2002, 03:01 PM I was thinking of selling mine, but not after that touching note. You are gonna love that sled. My father did the same, but a 2003 600 H.O I think the look on his face was the same. Didnt get off the sled for a hour ( in the garage).
