SWRules We got the snow they warned us about, but not all that's comming! (Expecting up to 11 inches more tomorrow! )
I drove the 25 miles to where my sled is stored again. My buddy Wris had his new (to him) 2000 700 MXZ parked outside, was suited up, and running his snowblower. There was about 4-6 inches there @ 3:30, some drifts, as a lotta wind comes with this storm,,, up to 40 mph gusts!
I step into the polebarn, uncover my beautiful baby :inlove: ,, (2002 500 MXZ Trail,, 3 miles on the odometer) then roll it to the apron. Wris is done blowing his drive out,, "Get suited up". Wris uses the dolly to lift her off the wheels, an puts her gently in the driveway as I suit up.
Being my first impressions,, I'll try to cover a few bases here incase anyone else is needing information. I am wearing a t-shirt, military wool sweater, and jeans. I put on my CXK Boots, Bibs, and coat. I put on the thin polyester balaclava, then my HJC Air-5 helmet. I then put on my glasses, and start putting on my CXK gloves,,,, GLASSES FOGGING ALREADY! Take glasses off, and put them away,, I'm far sighted anyway,,, so what the hey? :)
Wris is on the phone with his dad, so I step out, and start my baby to warm her up, It's 26 degrees, mostly cloudy, and a few intermitent flurries. I NEED gas! I have less than a 1/4 tank! Wris is off the phone now, and his sled was aready warmed up,, I tell him, and he says "No Problem". One pull and his 700 MXZ purrs. :D
Off we go! I'm so excited! We run around the 2 acre lawn, and go up the ditch to the side of the road,,(Legal here in NW Lower Michigan) OFF HE GOES! Big Rooter tail and all!!! I hammer it,, here's that rush again!!! I'm doing 65 when I look down!! Wooo Hooo!!! I'm following well behind Wris and his snowdust,, and am slowing down,,, 45 now,,, sled seemed pretty solid! :inlove: Wris signals a right turn after a half mile, and we enter a two track,, we exit after a mile or so, cross a field, and we're accross from a gas station. Accross the hiway we go! Pull along side the pump, ,I buy a pint of that TCW-3 grade 2 stroke oil, add 8 oz to the tank,,(I don't know how rich the dealer mixed his gallon :sarcasm: they didn't say!) I put nearly 8 gallons of 89 octane in,, filling her up.
Off we go! We rode 28 miles of old railroad beds, back roads, two tracks, and a field for about an hour and a half total. We even traded sleds for a couple of miles of road,,, It sure was cool to see my baby pass me while I was dooing 65 on Wris' 700! She sure sounded pretty!! :inlove:
My HJC Air5 fogged a little,, my feet and hands were warm,, the backs of my upper arms were a little chilly from time to time, and my chin and neck got cold running the roads.
I was :inlove: with the ride, the power, acceleration and turning responce of my 500 MXZ.
I smelled plastic burning once, and ran her through the powder for a while. Hope I'm curing the Hi-Fax correctly?
I varied my rpms, and speed almost constantly. Pinned it a few times until I saw 8000 rpm on the tach. LOVED the accelleration! :hallo1:
I learned after riding Wris's 700, I WANT studs! I learned what "Darting" is,,, and Wris's sled did less of it than mine did, with his studs, and longer carbides.
I learned NOT to let off the throttle quickly on a hard packed road,,, the back end wants to be the front end! and I learned that 1/2 throttle in cruise on my 500 is about 60 on my speedo. I know Speedo's are at least 10% off, but it sure seems fast! Woooooo Hoooooo!! :p
As we pulled into the polebarn, Wris said to me: "That's got more power than any 500 I've ever ridden." That made my day. :D We compared fuel gauges: Mine still showing full,, his used 1/8 a tank.
I asked Wris how he liked his 700 MXZ. Wris has owned a Polaris 500, and Arctic Cat 500, an Arctic Cat 600 ZRT. This was Wris's first ride on Ski-Doo,,,, "I think I'm :inlove: " he said.
My baby has 31 miles on her now,, and shes MINE! :inlove:
Wris and I Ski-Doo,,, Doo You?
