I think my 670 is running too rich on oil...how can I turn it down safely?

Rocket, why do you think it is using too much?

I'm using probably a litre of oil to a tank of fuel. It is on the stock setting right now, and seems to be using more oil than before I rebuilt it. I had the mech turn it UP after the rebuild.

What should the oil consumption be?

It should be about 50:1.

Fill up both your oil and gas, do a run, and measure what you used of each.

Just remember, oil is cheaper than pistons. ;)

To get a feel for what you should be using, you need to know your gas milage. My experience shows a lot of sleds are around 10mpg. We know we are looking for a 50/1 mixture.

So, using the 10mpg, at 60 miles we should have burned about 6 gallons of gas. Our 50/1 mixture we are looking for would indicate we should be able to add only a pint of oil at that point (6 gallons of gas, 1 pint of oil = 50/1)

Most settings run on the oil rich side of these numbers, but ballpark settings should have you going at least 100
miles per quart of oil, again assuming you are getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 10mpg.

So if a guy was to begin adjusting the pump, how much do you go at a time?

The guy would have to know how much oil he was using. If it's twice the normal amount he might want to go several turns, if just a little off, maybe half a turn. It's something you've got to fiddle with. Obviously you don't want to starve the motor for oil, so you just kinda creep up on the right setting and watch what's happening, when you add oil/gas, while you go. I'd start off by making sure it's set the way the factory intended it to be,
then go from there.

I have the shop manual for all 1999 ski-doo models on CD. I can e-mail you the file for adjustment if yours is a 99. I see that's the year of your Mach, but what about the 670 ?

the 670 is a 97. Got the manual for that one already. Thanks

There should be a tic mark for aligning your oil pump. That should be the minimum that you adjust to, oil is cheap compared to cranks. If you starve your engine for oil it will take a period of time before you are aware of it, that could be very expensive.

I ran a 96 formula ss for 11000 miles using yamalube 2-s at 120-140 miles to a quart, I never had rave valve stick either :D

You can't really go by the 50:1 thing like the old pre-mix sleds. The oil injected sleds vary by how much throttle your using .At idle it might be 100:1 for example and wide open might be more than 50:1 so oil consumption will vary depending on how much throttle you use and riding style.I would set it up to align with the factory marks and leave it alone.Just make sure all the free play is out of your throttle cable before you align the marks.I've adjusted lots of sleds that were lined up at idle but by the time you actually moved the throttle cable enough to move the slides in the carb, you were well past the marks on the oil pump. This will make your sled hard on oil.
