Wondering if anyone is using heelclickers, I'm thinking of using them on my '02 MXZ 800, are they worth it, and are they difficult to install/tune?

mostly everything ive read says people like them and work good, but need some amount of tuning,i had ordered a set from royal dist..,but sent them back after i seen id have to drill out my clutch for them to work, was a little nervous on doing this so i sent it back for a refund.

I heard they work great as well but tend to be hard on belts.PM 800MXZ as i think he ran them last year ;)

I have had them on my '01 MXZ800 for a season now and I'm very pleased with them. Great holeshot and backshift...excellent for grass racing too. Ran 5.6's in 500 ft. Call Randy at Supertorquer for setup recommendations.

I ran them for 2 yrs, they work but take too much fiddling and tend to be inconsistent. IMO nothing beats the good ole TRA.

Go to sledgear.com. There are some real good techncial articles about the TRA clutch. They compare the side forces of the TRA to a Polaris clutch. I just installed a kit on my 01 MXZ 800 but haven't had much time to tune anything but the engagement. It takes some time but I don't feel that you damage the clutch in any way. I could go back to the standard TRA setup if I wanted to. I didn't have any fancy machining equipment to do the work. I just used a drill, small flat file. and a round file. I also had a gram scale to weigh the clutch after I drilled out each slot to make sure I was removing the same amount of material.

I just had a chance to run mine on the 02 mxz 800. From 40Km/Hr up sled pulls very hard (snow too soft to tell if there is any gain at slower speeds). Very pleased with power delivery. Install is more of a science then a procedure though. With belt alignment and tension set the sled would creep. It turned out to be the weight hitting the web inside housing. This was just enough to have the belt grab. Changed type of tip weight, no more creep. Also, noticed the mid weight was touching the cotter pin that retains the pin for the roller. Changed to a smaller cotter pin. The weights (nuts, bolts washers) in the kit must be checked as they can vary in weight from the directions if there weight is given at all. Through in a 30% increase in fuel consumption and that would about do it. I think I can recover most of the lost mileage by changing the primary spring for one with a slightly softer installed pressure and the same finish pressure. I hope to try this over the holidays. So if this hasn’t scared you away and you like to tune, good performance can be obtained.

I only wish I would have followed Dunkmaster and checked the clutch weight after each slot. SWRules
