: Polaris Xc 600
ExplorerSVT 12-13-2002, 01:25 PM I'm new here and new to the whole snowmobiling thing. Ive rode a few times with some friends and it was really fun. My question is, my friend has a 98 Polaris XC 600 that he said he will sell to me after this season. Its in great condition, new studded track (I think 192), clutch kit and carbides. Im not sure how many miles are on it but lets just say its got 5K. How much do you think its worth? BTW, I live in upstate NY and it is mostly used up in Ol' Forge on the lakes and trails Thanks guys!
BGTRK19472 12-13-2002, 02:13 PM In your area in think a good price would be 2500 to 3000. In MN you could get a 98 xc600 for an average of 2500.

Sled Dogg 12-13-2002, 03:18 PM you'd get a better deal at the sled auctions here in Michigan at the end of the season. New mxz500 are selling for 2900-3100 there. $35oo in ec would've gottona 2000 yam SX700R for 2700, 00-01zr 600's for 3400-3600, and the polaris and doos were about the same in any given catogory. They'll be real cheap in the feb ,march, april, may, june auctions as guys are dumping them at end of season and dealers are selling left over stock. Check out the link I've posted for the Nov price reports.

ExplorerSVT 12-13-2002, 05:24 PM I'm not sure how many miles are on it, but I'll try to find out. What does a rebuild cost? Is it easy to do yourself or do you have to get it done professionally? I dont really know much of anything about snowmobiles so any pointers you guys have are really helpful. Thanks for the advice!
ExplorerSVT 12-14-2002, 12:44 AM Oh, are all XC 600's triples?

Oh, are all XC 600's triples?
Only XC 600 that was a triple was the 97 XC 600
The XCR 600 94-96 was the basic same sled as the XC 600
97 1/2 XC 600 and up are twins they all have inboard trailing arms
ExplorerSVT 12-15-2002, 04:35 PM Ok Found out that its got about 4K miles and 144 studs in a brand new track. Hes gonna put a new clutch in it soon, too.
Oldsleder 12-15-2002, 05:24 PM Do just what your doing, check the classifieds , ask around , and see what other sleds are going for. There are some good buys out there. don't rush into it.. That's my 10 cents worth.. :sarcasm:

Beaucoup Traction 12-16-2002, 12:31 PM i would try to get a little better deal if you're buying it at the end of the season. 2500 seems like a fair price for one this time of year. if you do get that sled, replace the waterpump drive belt. i had one of those sleds last year, and that belt let go-it scuffed the pistons pretty bad. that belt drives the oil injection also. good sled though, fast 600.
BasketcaseRebuilder 12-16-2002, 12:33 PM Don't know if you get the Want Ad Digest where you live, but heres the link so you can shop and compare what sleds are going for in NY and surrounding states. The last I counted, there were over 500 sleds for sale in it.

ExplorerSVT 12-27-2002, 07:36 PM Thanks guys. I went to a polaris dealer today and they had no used sleds at all. There was one employee that tried to sell me his 99 XC 500 with 2,900 miles for $3395. Thats a little more than I would like to spend and I kinda want at least a 600. How fast would that 500 be? Does the value of sleds drop drastically after a certain amount of time? I dont want to buy this 98 for $2500-3000 and have it be worth $1000 in a 2 years or so, ya know? I'm not sure how much he is gonna ask because we havnt really talked about it yet. I want to get a polaris because him and all his friends have had polaris' for years and they know how to work on them and know where to get parts cheap. Is this a good trail sled? Is it easy to drive? Does it handle well? This will be my first sled and I dont have much experience riding them. I've got about 4 acres to get used to it on before I take it up north...so thats good, I guess. Also, how do I make is so I get an email notification when someone posts? Thanks.
ViperER2 12-29-2002, 03:13 AM a 98 and not to be used until the 04 season?
2500$ tops and it better be mint!
ExplorerSVT 12-29-2002, 03:20 AM I know this is not the right forum to ask this, but you guys have been a big help so far. I'm gonna ask my other friend who has 5 sleds if hes interested in selling any of them. If he is, it will either be a 96 Yamaha Vmax 600 (which I have driven and it is very fast), a late 90's ski doo MXZ 583 or a late 90's ski doo 440. If any of those, I think he would be willing to get rid of the Yamaha because he has had it the longest. What do you think that is worth? 2 grand or so? Thanks guys.
SD_Sledhead 12-30-2002, 01:44 PM If you go to http://www3.nadaguides.com/ you should be able to figure out the book price on all the snowmobiles that your looking at. You'll have to click on the motorcycles link on the left side of that page and it'll take you where you can look up snowmobiles. This is only the list price though, on a year like this you should be able to get one alot cheaper then the book price. But it should give you something to go off of anyways.
