I just installed a set of bender aftermarket tripple pipes on my 97 vmax 700sx. I was wondering what problems I could expect out of the DNR for noise levels, I ride in northern Wisconsin and the U.P. on thier trail systems. The main question is if a person rides sensably through towns and residential areas how much problems are they to expect from the DNR for noise levels? Currently I am working on some additional silencer inserts to knock the noise level down some more if needed but I do not know what is actually expected as far as decible levels from a sled and I know there are some sleds out there that are louder than mine that are stock. Any responses would be appreciated for those of us that like the additional power from the aftermarket pipes but are concerned about high dollar tickets from the DNR. Plus just what is the DNR looking for and how does the DNR check decible levels on sleds. Thanks......

That is why one needs to research the pipes before you buy them.
Honestly, keep it quiet in town you will have no prob. But they are more out to get the guys with the "race" silencers. They are ther real problem.

If DNR is standing on trail and thinks your sled is loud they will tell you to pull over and open your hood, and if you have aftermarket pipes or silencer they will write you a big ticket, which you can pay or go to court and fight it,[but probably lose] That happened to a buddy of mine and he got a ticket for $175.

I agree with 800 there, if it's a fairly quiet pipe, you have no worries. It's the people with the "race" pipes that give us all a bad name.
BTW-that's why they are called RACE pipes, they are supposed to be for race aplications only.

Well thanks for the input and I did check the other topic about silencers.I had an idea that the noise from some of these aftermarket pies was an issue in areas, but when and if we get snow in central Illinois I have access to plenty of fields and such to ride in where I don't have to worry about the DNR. On the same note I really didn't want to have to put the stock pipes and silencer back on everytime I went up north. I knew that I could build some mini silencers that would insert into these pipes to tone it down. When I purchased these pipes Bender Racing told me they were 3-4 decibles louder than stock so I knew it wouldn't take too much to quiet it down. The first attempt with the silencers I have it down to 70 decibles at 3k rpm at 50 feet. I am worried that these might build up with the 2 stroke exhaust residue so I am building anouther set that I believe will put me at 73-75 decibles. Which stock I think it was around 76-78 decibles. The main reason I did all of this is a friend that I ride with just bought the new F7 and I just wanted to run a little closer to him when we went riding. So it's not like I'm some punk that wants to terrify the trails, people and wildlife, I just don't want the extra work of changing everytime I go up north and I want to keep the extra ponies. The main issue is I didn't want to be 3-4 decibles quieter than I was with the stock pipe and still get a ticket just because the exhaust wasn't "factory"!!!! Thanks for all the input and hope to see ya on the trails (not broke down I hope)........
