its a 97 mach1 with crankshop trail pipes, trail porting, v-force reeds
and a head & shim kit and a 1 3/8" deep lug track
primary spring 185-410
296 ramps
22 gram pins
clicker #1

secondary
beige 24 lbs
custom made helix
with this setup it pulls real hard but it over revs on top end motor makes power at 8700 rpm it over revs to 9000

i have put a diffrent primary spring in a 200-320 but dont have any snow to test it

Mach 1,

Get rid of those 296 ramps, they are ment for motors with no low end torque. That mach will pull a ton more ramp and accelerate faster with a different ramp. The finnish angle of the 296 is to steep for that motor.

I suggest you use:

230-380 spring
280 ramps
50 helix @ 18-20 lbs
start with stock pins

Adjust clicker for rpm

I have pins up to 32 grams but that is not your problem.

that is a good set up glh i use to use it in my mach 1 and still use it in my 96 mach z but with more pin weight i would also give the 287 a try

glh i have tried a setup like that before and didnt care for it the
clutches got very hot and the sled felt like it stoped pulling on top end
I dont have the 280 ramps anymore but iam looking for a setup that can be used for both trail & race

Mach 1,

Your clutches will be screaming hot with the 296's unless you throw about 26 grams of pin at it.

I run the 280 or 287 setups at them and typically get about 1800 miles on a belt. It is ment for all around. Just play with spring pressure and clicker position to get the right rpm.

I you don't like 280's I would use 297 ramps from the 99' mach Z and a 230-420 spring with a 53-47 helix, you will need about 17 grams of pin on clicker 3. This setup does pull top end and CAN be loaded harder on the bottom but a great all aoround setup. Beige spring in B-5.

the 286 are a good ramp if you use them you will need to use a 230-380 18 gr on adjuster #4 for 8600 rpm ,that is using a 50 helix and 19-21 lbs preload,if you need to you can always use the stock helix 50-47to keep your 8600-8700 rpm up. i use this set up on my 96 mach z on asphalt , ice and the trails

:) mach1, I'd agree with the 286 setup from doo900, and also part of the 280 setup from GLH. I had a setup for my Mach1 with Jaws pipes (8900-9000) using black (185-415), 280, 13grams (you should use stock 16.4g to lower revs. to 8700), clicker @#3, secondary 44 Goodwin cam set @ 20-21lbs. (but you could try the stock 50-47 cam). I have found that you need to engage the 280 ramp low enough to avoid power spinning the track (like in snow), cause it then upshifts too fast,(and if you notice the profile of the 280, it goes downhill, then sweeps uphill, and it is a shallow uphill which loads the motor hard), and when you do get traction, you're on the uphill and this usually lugs the motor down then it slowly climbs back up. That is what I have figured out about the 280's, but if you can make them work, they're one of the best accelerating and roll-on ramps you could use. I also found that when I piped my sled (I am now back to stock pipes), I couldn't use steep cams anymore, I had to use cams like a 44, 48-44, and stock 50-47 at the most, cause I needed to get rpm's up quicker to the 8800-9000, and these shallower cams also helped to keep my clutches cooler (less belt slip).
Hope this helps ! :)

i run a 99 mach 1 this is my preliminary setup.

Mag arms 20 grams pin weight 200-380 spring, 280 ramps clicker 5, 50-47 goodwin blue at b-6 runs flat 8500 rpm all the way and pulls fricken hard

have you guys ever tried the 299 ramps i have them and put them side by side with the 286 ramp the profile looks alike but the 299 lays down flatter on top looks like it would work better on top end .
Has anybody tried the 145 ramps i was told by a guy who races that the 145 ramp works the best for the 700 what do you think.

mach1 i too dont like the 280`s very much i have tried them and found that they pull hard for about 150-200 feet then just lay down. they do not work at all for trail. im running the 286 with the pnk/wht/and 20grms pin and i find this set up to pull way more then my 280 set up but every sled is different im not shure as how much top end im gainning or loosing yet but will find out soon.u could actualy make your own pins. limskii realy knows these mach1`s he treats his lika a baby but now he has 2 babies on the way.hehehe.... ps congrats on that steph im shure your gonna do just fine.;).... but try that set up and let us know how u made out

The 280s need to be clicked up like 4 or higher i run on 5 now, if u run them lower thats where your loosing on your top end cuz they shift out so damn fast then it has no more pull on the top end, a little shallower helix on the finish helps get a bit more top end also, a 52-48 would work nice
